My Story
Who would have thought I would be running; let alone running a half marathon.
On the 6th December 2020 Stuart was involved in a farm accident were he fell 17ft through a roof. Stu broke his femur and severed his femoral artery; an injury that could have ended his life.
Whilst in complete shock and panic, I did the only rational thing; signed up for the Balf Half Marathon. The event was due to take place on the 5th September 2021 however it has now been rescheduled three times and will be taking place on the 16th October 2022.
My intentions were good, but training never started so I will be attempting to run/ more likely walk the distance. Wish me luck!!
Stu owes his life to the fast responding Great Western Air Ambulance Charity, paramedics and the NHS. GWAAC is a charity which does not receive government funding and relies on donations:
- £250 could pay for a flight suit to keep the crew visable and safe.
- £330 could pay for a credo box to transport and store blood.
- £712 could pay for a specialist paramedic for the day.
- £2000 could pay for one life saving mission.
Please help me raise as much as possible as a way of thanking this incredible charity!
Within five minutes of receiving a call, the Great Western Air Ambulance Charity team can be on their way to an incident. When responding to a medical emergency, every second counts.
I'm making my seconds count by running the Bath Half Marathon 2021 as part of Team GWAAC. By sponsoring me you'll be supporting this essential lifesaving service.
Great Western Air Ambulance Charity is the busiest air ambulance service in the South West, serving a population of 2.1 million people. In 2019 we attended over 2,000 patients. Our team of Critical Care Paramedics and Doctors are called to an average of 5 incidents a day, at least one of which will be a patient in cardiac arrest. From emergency cesareans to roadside amputations, blood transfusions to emergency anaesthetics, GWAAC's crew bring the skill and equipment of the Emergency Department out to where it is most needed.
GWAAC is a charity funded by donations from the public. They receive no day to day government or national lottery funding. They couldn't keep flying without people like you and without the ongoing support of the people they serve, so thank you!
